Privacy Policy
Snap OCR · Last updated: June 1, 2026
Snap OCR is a Chrome extension that extracts text from an area of your screen. Your privacy is the core of the product: the content you capture is processed entirely on your own device and is never sent to us or to any third party.
What we do not collect
- We do not collect, transmit, store, or have any access to the screenshots or text you capture.
- Text recognition (OCR) runs locally in your browser (in an offscreen document using on-device WebAssembly). Captured images never leave your machine.
- No analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no user accounts, no browsing history.
What is stored locally on your device
The extension keeps a small amount of data in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local), which never leaves your device:
- A daily usage counter (to enforce the free-tier limit), which resets each day.
- If you purchase Pro, your license key and its activation state.
License activation
If you buy a Pro license, activation is handled by our payment provider, Lemon Squeezy (the Merchant of Record). When you enter your license key, that key is sent to Lemon Squeezy solely to validate it. Payment and billing data are handled by Lemon Squeezy under their own privacy policy; we never receive your card details.
Permissions
- activeTab / scripting — to capture and read the area you select, only when you trigger the tool.
- offscreen — to run the OCR engine locally in the background.
- storage — to keep the usage counter and your license locally.
The extension requests no host permissions and makes no network requests for OCR.
Deleting your data
Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data. You can also remove your license at any time from the extension's Options page.
